Contemporary armed conflicts and political rivalries are increasingly shifting into the information sphere. Russia is particularly adept at so-called information warfare, which involves disseminating disinformation to undermine the credibility of Western institutions and states. This strategy is implemented via various platforms and media channels, which are key in spreading pro-Russian messages and crafting anti-Western narratives.
The MENAT region (Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey) is a significant area where Russia intensifies its disinformation efforts. Due to regional tensions and armed conflicts, Russian narratives find fertile ground in this region. The widespread access to the internet and social media enables disinformation campaigns on an unprecedented scale.
This analysis aims to identify and present Russia's methods and tools in the MENAT region to propagate pro-Russian narratives and disinformation. The analysis seeks to illustrate the wide range of platforms and channels Russia utilizes to influence public opinion in the area. This allows Russia to impact perceptions of international conflicts or attempt to reshape the image of selected countries, including Poland. The analysis aims to shed light on the scale and complexity of Russia’s information strategy and facilitate the identification of pro-Russian activities.
